The Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC) has advocated for the human rights and voice of people with lived experience since 1982. Â
Since then, our Committee of Management has had a crucial role in setting VMIAC’s strategic direction. It’s always been in service of our vision: ‘all mental health consumers stand proud, live a life with choices honoured, rights upheld, and these principles embedded in all aspects of society’.Â
With our members, VMIAC has done some of Australia’s most radical advocacy on seclusion and restraint, the Declaration, and driving accountability during the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System. Â
The value of membership
Everyone on our committee of management has lived experience and is a member of VMIAC. Are you?
VMIAC will soon be advertising for nominations for the new 2025 Committee of Management, but our Constitution clearly states that you can only nominate if you are a member. Â
If you are considering nominating for the CoM, you must be a member before 31 October.Â
If you’re thinking about nominating, make sure you sign up as a member before 31 October—that’s less than two weeks away! If you’re unsure whether you’re a member, email our membership team at membership@vmiac.org.au. Â
Signing up as a member doesn’t mean you have to nominate to be on the committee of management, but it is a requirement if you want to do so.
