Navigating My Way Project

Navigating My Way is a VMIAC project aiming to help consumers get what we need from the NDIS. The project is by and for people with lived and/or living experience of psychosocial disability, mental ill health, or as a consumer of mental health services. The project is funded by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Consumers will be invited to co-design NDIS self-advocacy resources and information for NDIS participants, prospective participants, and service providers about how to have their needs met by the NDIS. These tools and resources will assist people to understand their rights and navigate NDIS application, review, appeals and complaints processes. The project values genuine co-design, self-advocacy and lived experience.

From November 2023, the Navigating My Way team will work with consumers to design and develop a series of resources and tools to make navigating, using and changing NDIS supports easy and accessible.

The project will be supported by an ongoing Advisory Group of 10 consumers with lived and/or living experience who will guide the co-design process. 10 co-design sessions with a total of 50 participants will also be held between November 2023 and June 2024 to identify the needs, wishes and rights in the NDIS and what resources and tools can be created to best support these.

Following the co-design and consultation process, two suites of resources will be created for:

  • People with psychosocial disability, and;
  • Services, organisations and workers who work within or alongside the NDIS.

These resources will equip participants and service providers with the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to self-advocate and engage with the NDIS in a way that is safe and meaningful.
